Its buying superior talent Oh c'mon now. You cant BUY talent in SV. Talent can go anywhere it wants to these days. Talent is looking for a leader. Today's leader isnt necessarily tomorrow's leader in these VERY fast changing days. but getting a Mario Mazzola or a Judith Estrin is worth paying 10 times a premium for a "SINGLE SWITCH" as you put it. Sure, if the bureaucracy of the gorilla lets these people do there thing like they're supposed to. But I dont see the free flow of ideas coming out of CSCO like it used to.
