Intel is certainly not infallible. The original Pentium FDIV bug (and how they initially stonewalled it), the Merced slip(s), Camino show it. Now Coppermine. Sometimes though, when the adversity level gets up there, the teeth grit more (when the going gets tough, the tough get going).

Hey, reminds me, I was once the head of a project team that disqualified Intel, in favor of Hitachi and Mostek, from 16K DRAM use in a mainframe back in the early 80s. The guy that gets credit, nowadays, for turning Intel into a world class manufacturing chip company back then is none other than Craig Barrett.
