Mr. Hamilton, the target audience for Red Hat is not really personal computers at all right now. The market penetration they have been shooting for thus far has been in the web serving arena, where they now dominate. Also, in every environment that involves servers (not PC's), Linux is growing by leaps and bounds.

Someday soon Linux may develop a Windows-type interface for cheaper than Windows and that works better than the Microsoft kind, but right now Red Hat and Linux isn't really concerned with the PC market.

I have never had to call Microsoft for help!!! And although their OS is a piece of #$%^&, Redhat's does not even load properly. You say I need to buy another $90 Application to get the XWindow working.

I agree that this part of the Linux install sucks. Fortunately I didn't have any problems here as the monitor I have available for that machine was one that was listed in the Xfree setup. If yours isn't, you can program a custom setup using scan rates and such from your monitor's manual but I wouldn't wish it upon you.

IMHO, the Linux install is far beyond the average computer user. At least with Red Hat 6.0 you don't have to manually assign disk partitions and sizes anymore.

Current Redhat is fairly simple install. cd's are 1.99 at cheapbytes.com. Now if you have an oddball video card Xfree86 may not be a no brainer. But if you check video card is supported by AcceleratedX. X install is no brainer. AcceleratedX is 89.95 at cheapbytes. Now if you take the time to start using Linux and get past the some of the initial learning pains, You will soon say to yourself, Self, why did I let Bill Gates make a total ass of my for so long. And over time the thought of using any Borg product will make you cringe.

My machines using acceleratedX, About 5 minutes to install redhat. 2 minutes to install AcceleratedX. 3 minutes to configure.
