There is a difference between premises that are disputable, and premises that are irrational.

Obviously.

But to take the doctrine of Original Sin, it is one of the most sensible doctrines in Christianity, regardless of the character of the tale of origin.

Sensible to you, totally irrational to me, along with psychologically damaging and without basis in reality. You haven't studied much psychology, have you?? It's come a long way since Pavlov's dogs. I could turn you on to a book or two, if you're interested.

The more scientific way to put it is that there is a tension between the more primitive portion of our brain, and the rational portion of our brain, and therefore we have a propensity to do things that we know are a bad idea.

LOL!! You wouldn't be speaking from personal experience, would you?? <VBG> Seriously, there is a big difference between making bad choices, (which we all do), and accepting as fact that our soul/id/person is fundamentally flawed and evil.

The evidence for the doctrine is compelling, if not conclusive:-)...

An opinion, not a fact. We'll just have to agree to disagree...

SAY WHAT??? This is one of the more irrational statements I've seen recently.
If you accept the whole folderol that goes with, maybe. But that's true of even the most damaging and insane belief systems.
