Concerning AOL in the UK. I wonder will the British patronize local UK ISP's? Local UK companies, like FreeServe, X-Stream (XSNI:Nasdaq)and Virgin Net, etc. Will the British look upon them as the Robin Hood's of free Internet, forcing the wealthy giants like AOL valued in the billions, to fall in line in the U.K. free Internet game? There must be a fortune in advertising with the mad scramble in the UK to gather up subscribers. I guess it's the advertising that keeps the tv programs and magazines rolling on. In the UK the #1 Internet service provider (ISP) is FreeServe with 1.2 million subscribers followed by #2 AOL UK with 600,000 subscribers and #3 X-Stream with nearly 400,000 subscribers. Both FreeServe and x-stream are looking for IPO's. To receive free Internet on FreeServe, I think one has to shop at Dixons, the owner of FreeServe.!! X-Stream holds the distinction to be the 1st. to offer free Internet, not only in the UK, but in the world. Plus the first in the UK to offer free E-mail, fax, voice mail and phone. Once they gather the information on those that join, x-stream designs a narrow band of personalized advertising for each person.!! x-stream shares more than doubled last week from their low (US$1.88/sh. to US$3.94/sh.) and x-stream is up 500% more in the number of subscribers they forecast last year.!!!--so AOL has local U.K. competition.!! Let's hope even the small guy's get a slice of the pie.!!!
