Interesting series of comments about @home vs. DSL. I've been watching such comparisons for awhile because TCI seems to be getting ever closer to offering @home in my neighborhood. I have DSL now, but would consider switching. Maybe. If I'm sure it's better (and completly without regard for stocks are in my portfolio).

For those who didn't go through them all, much of the discussion is about the comparative speed of a DSL and ATHM connection.

They are using this page for the test:
computingcentral.com

And (although it would be far from useful to clutter the string with these sorts of comparisons) here are my results on a USWest DSL with the ineffably incompetent USWest.net as ISP:

7:22 pm:
814.4 Kpbs | 99.8 K bytes/sec
7:23 pm:
543.3 Kbps | 66.6 K bytes/sec
7:25 pm:
543.3 Kbps | 66.6 K bytes/sec
7:30 pm:
599.1 Kbps | 73.4 K bytes/sec

[I have a 256/256 K DSL line, but it's usually faster than that by this and other measuring sticks.]
