On January 14, 1999, Oracle Corporation announced the formation of a $100 million fund to promote innovation by companies developing products and services based on the Oracle8 platform. As the leading Internet foundation technology provider and the world's leading supplier of software for information management, Oracle believes that it can provide more than just funding--it can provide companies with the benefit of Oracle's worldwide market presence, access to Oracle technologies and developers, and access to early releases of Oracle software. "All of the top ten business-to-consumer e-commerce sites, and nine of the top ten business-to-business e-commerce sites are powered by Oracle technology," said Gary Bloom, executive vice president, Oracle. "This fund will help fuel a market rich with opportunity, enabling tomorrow's Internet success stories with Oracle8i as the technology foundation."
What is the Oracle Venture Fund?
The Oracle Venture Fund is a $100 million fund for companies developing products and services based on Oracle's Internet computing platform, the only completely scalable development and deployment platform for Internet computing.

Why was the fund started?
Oracle's goal is to promote innovation by investing in the next generation of Internet software companies. Oracle believes that companies funded by the Oracle Venture Fund will benefit from Oracle's worldwide marketing and branding, as well as the market access provided by the world's second largest software company. Companies will also receive access to Oracle's technology, Oracle developers, technical support, and early releases of new software.

In what kinds of companies will the fund invest?
The fund will focus on companies doing work in the areas of content management, electronic commerce, business intelligence, and other end-to-end Internet solutions. The fund will focus on newly formed companies that choose Oracle as their primary technology platform and more mature companies that are developing new products and services or rearchitecting existing offerings based on Oracle technology.

What is the target investment amount?
The fund's target investment is between $2 million and $5 million, although higher amounts are possible, depending on individual opportunity and existing investors. Oracle will also seek to co-invest with established venture capitalists.
