Not many funds are in the Internet. They fear the volatility. Besides, Fidelity being the biggest Mutual Fund company would not want investors to give investor loans on margin so that they buy the Internets and erode the profits of the stocks that Fidelity holds. And the same goes with Schwab. Now I have DATEK and E-TRADE. E-TRADE stinks. Cannot get through to them in a timely manner. DATEK is great. DATEK is not into MUTUAL funds. That is why they have a 50% requirement for the Internets. The Fidelity folks on the other hand want to make sure that we buy the shares that their Mutual Funds hold with margin funds and not the Internet stocks. Legalistic requirement: This is purely my opinion and is intended to spur discussion only. It should not be taken as professional advice.

It may also be that they want to protect themselves and traders. Maybe there were a ton of margin calls during the last few weeks. From reading these boards it sounded as if there were. Even at 80% restrictions. In the end it may help cushion us from another severe correction. I use Fidelity myself, and I know that if someone is heavily weighted in a particular stock or using a lot of margin, they will individually raise margin requirements--I checked my portfolio and nothing seemed changed on it, but CMGI is relatively small part of it.
