I take guidance from INTC's actions, management's discussions with public, and my own judgement on trends.

The analyst is not needed. They are politicians of Wall Street.

Actually, the sell-side analysts are scared to death. As commissions at full service brokers plummet, there is more need for them to be right and different. Instead of hiding under each others wings like turkeys, they have to differentiate their prognostications and be right. Personally, I think they are a dying species. Overfed, their shirts are too stuffed for them to be able to breed. Soon, companies are going to have to release more information to independent investors, business models, product breakdowns, etc. It is intolerable that companies (like Intel) make their stockholders guess about how well or badly their products are doing. That is why the analyst's upgrades and downgrades have so much impact. I think buyside analysts will become more and more important in the future, and maybe even make a little change selling their advice.
