Only to repeat what I said yesterday, Tom: It's not a banner ad.

I haven't seen a banner ad on SI. I have seen an ad, however, and I think GNET was ill-advised to add even that minor ad to the page. But I also see in this thread and the "Welcome" and "What's New" threads far too many responses from posters who seem to have reacted in a way that a spoiled child might react to something he or she doesn't like. Making an obnoxious and silly spectacle of one's dissatisfaction doesn't strike me as useful.

The Datek link is a hyperlink and not a banner ad.

See the go2net front page - or any other site such as Yahoo to see a banner ad. You also see very small ones if viewing SI as a non-member. They are almost the full width of your browser, they blink, flash, move, talk, and do anything to get your attention. They are also at times customized for each user by companies like Doubleclick using cookies to retrieve info such as your geographic location.

As a go2net shareholder and a Lifetime SI subscriber,
I have no problem with the Datek link or Russell's response to Josef.
