2 1/2 years is quick?

According to Dirk, AMD started K7 design in January 1997, got first silicon in June 1998 (18 months) and it is almost the END of JUNE, 1999 and they still haven't released the K7 - 30 months after the project started.

I agree that there is something about the K7 design methodology that just doesn't add up.
