Grace, your post was marvelous for its ultimate message, because it exemplifies the latency which exists for bandwidth demand in even the most routine and unexpected places.

I too have a client who is struggling on the back ends of their systems (which makes it my struggle by extension) with large TIFF, GIF, ABIC and JPEG formats, to the tune of some Seven Terabytes of hierarchically archived images, and growing.

These must be replicated and backed up, and added to, daily. Client downloads for image examinations through "extranet" links, and via dedicated lines in some cases, can be anywhere from 50 kB to several hundred Meg. Several clients demand entire files downloaded to the tune of 2GB to 5GB, on demand! I therefore have some inkling as to what you speak.

The cost of $269/month may sound egregious to some. What do you pay in lost opportunities while you travel, for messenger services, and the lost opportunities of not having rapid turnaround? How many sales go down the dumper because you are not able to examine in a collaborative way with the client (say, over the phone, while you still have the ability to real time edit) their exceptions and their desires?

$269/mo would be a major league steal for someone like yourself, nothing more than parking meter change, I'd bet.

Grace, all of this having been said, it certainly points to the multi-dimensionality of access and transport requirements, all of which being bundled conveniently under the general heading of residential and SOHO "Internet Access Services." No doubt, voice will also find its way as a convenient adjucnt service here at some point, as well. As was pointed out in yesterday's posts.
