And when you think without the assistance of a higher being you get Stalin and Lenin and the purges of millions, China and the Cultural War, etc.

Frankly, I think it's a waste of time arguing whether persons of faith or persons of no faith are responsible for more human death and misery. There is plenty of blame on both sides to go around.

May I make a comment here? Having faith is not at all incompatible with hanging onto one's higher reasoning functions.

One does not have to be an atheist to find the simple answers unsatisfactory. Every devout believer in a deity is not a mindless poop that sashays off to drink the Kool Aid in Jonestown.
