In spite of clown reports about DSL throughput please tell me who would take DSL over cable if they had both available?
This is the crux of your argument, that cable is so drastically better than DSL that they are not in the same league.

Cable has the potential to get there someday. But cable as it is currently implemented is quite arguably inferior to many DSL in many locations. Getting cable to anywhere near its real potential is going to take a lot more investment. Investment that needs a current stream of revenue.

In the meantime DSL will find ways to advance technically too. How? By bringing fiber closer to the customer and *calling it* DSL. Once people are used to getting internet service through the phone company they will stick to it. It really is a race where noone can afford to stumble, you must see that.
