I've used Fidelity for a long time, but not for shorting. Never did it with Fidelity. I like to trade using their FOX software and you can't short with it, must phone in to a broker. I would find some other place, perhaps Datek or something like CyBerTrader, so you can get in and out quickly. I don't believe Fidelity would work well, particularly if you're shorting as a daytrade or other very short term.

It would depend on what you are shorting.I have shorted most of the big internets(yhoo,amzn,cmgi,lcos,ssek) and the big techs(dell,intc,etc)
