This concept of God seems to elude many people, which surprises me.

Surprises you, why?

I have found that people who are committed to science and scientific reasoning tend to be very threatened by concepts of the Divine because they can't measure or weigh or analyze God, so they have no acceptable way of approaching God; they fear that if they accept God they have to abandon their commitment to science. They can't see how the two are compatible; after all, God created the laws of science.

OTOH, people whose faith is based in a religious text such as the Bible or Koran tend to reject science because it isn't in the Bible, and they have trouble with the concept that it is okay to question and examine. Their religious life has been based on obedience and faith and N(T questioning or challenging.

VERY simplistic -- I'm tired and it's been a hard night and day. So don't try to pick this apart in detail; I have already found a bunch of things I could pick at. But I think the underlying core of the dichotomy is there. I think many scientists are afraid of religion for fear it will make them give up what is dear to them, and many religious persons are afraid of science because they fear it will prove things they believe in to be untrue. And none of them realize that God and science coexist quite beautifully, and make both our Divine and our scientific understanding of the world richer and more fulfilling.

To me, part of being human is being open to all aspects of life, not shutting some out from fear.

But I said I wasn't going to talk about my religious beliefs for a while here. So no more of this, except by PM.
