I'll be the first to admit that I know less than diddly about wireless technology, but this is from the Michael Dell interview in Barron's... I though new technology might bail out IRID

<<>>As for wireless, well, "right now, the cellular companies don't have the bandwidth to compete and are not really serious players in the broadband race," says Dell, "though this will change as third-generation cellular technologies, optimized for data, are introduced a few years out. Initially, I don't think we are looking at cellular being used out of the home so much as it will inevitably be used to connect the next generation of mobile laptops. Direct connection to the Internet via satellite of the type now offered by General Motors' Hughes Electronics division through DirecTV can be appealing, if there is no other access. But it's not always very competitive" in terms of price.>>

Very good answer, Valueman. I did not think of the Lockheed Asia telephone project.

Good answer, Valueman.
