Nuc,
The differentiation is easy in this case:

beta.iqc.com

1. WCOM did not just touch the upper BB. It has started surfing three days in a roll now.

2. WCOM has not been able to break the $93-94 area since March. It did that successfully on Friday with the largest volume in 1 1/2 months.

3. BB works best in a trading range market or stock but not when a stock is breaking out. The reverse is equally true.

I have noticed that after a prolonged run up, followed by a period of consolidation/congestion, that a move above old highs on volume can signal a new prolonged run up...especially for a street darling like WCOM.
