<Do cars drop in price 40% a year?<

Well, you know in fact they do...or almost. Auto makers have to come out with new models each year(a very expensive proposition) in order to feed and advance their market. If you look at the price for a top of the line INTC processor its remained fairly stable the past few years, its the older "models" that have depreciated. The car business works in a similar way, though, its a lot more expensive for them to engineer a new car...

<Do cars drop 40% per year?> I bought 4 pc for may family in last 2 years and only one new car in last 3 years.

Volume!!!!

Also processors keep getting smaller and cheaper to build. Hell, if autos followed this path, our cars could be 3 feet long by 2 feet wide.

Low cost manufacturing!!!

Interesting that you should mention that. I saw an analysis in newspaper a few weeks ago where the guy claimed that computers "aged" roughly four times as fast as automobiles or other office equipment. He equated a three-year-old computer with a 12-year-old car.

That's a lot of replacement buying.
