<<Maybe if the kids knew that people all over the world believe that it is wrong to kill, steal and commit perjury, they might be persuaded that it's a good idea, as well as the law.>>

What a novel idea, of course we'd need a new president or a congrees with balls.

<<Gilgamesh, then say, Lao-Tse, the Bhagavad-Gita, some Shinto, Buddhism, Zororastrianism, the Stoics, Greek, Roman and Norse myths and legends for the first semester, then for the second semester we could do the Jews, the Christians, Islam, then African and American Indian religions.>>

Wouldn't need all that if they were taught..<<Maybe if the kids knew that people all over the world believe that it is wrong to kill, steal and commit perjury, they might be persuaded that it's a good idea, as well as the law.>>

Wouldn't that sort of steal the thunder from the conservative Christians, who seem to think they invented these rules? I am not sure they would like that!

I like this idea a lot, and have often proposed it. It seems the perfect middle ground between ignoring religion and promoting one sect above others. I wonder how the Christians among us would feel about it?

Add me to the list of those who favor teaching comparative religions. I posted the same thing a couple of years ago. The Christians would never stand for it.
