TVW - More Features Planned for England's Parliament Channel

At present the site shows live debates and allows users to
call up any action they have missed in recent days. However,
according to Phil Haggar of CCT Productions, which
provides the video feed and MP database for the site, there
are plans to add more features.

He says: "We're at the very start of the service so it's fairly
basic. If you visit the site you can just watch the debate of
your choice or view whatever is going on in the House at the
time. However, we are going to make it far more interesting.

"First, the site is due to move over to RealNetworks' latest
G2 software. This means we will be able to send captions
with the video feed so we can say who somebody is when
they are speaking and provide additional information."
Haggar says the next big step will be to make the site more
interactive by giving users access to a vast depth of video
footage from the past as well as detailed text information
regarding each speaker.

"By the end of the summer you should have a caption that
sits alongside the image to explain who is speaking. This will
also provide a hypertext link so you can download his or her
home page or get further details about their politics, such as
how they've voted in the past," he says.

"The really interesting thing we're working on is a search
facility. This would allow somebody on the site to tap in an
MP's name or a keyword for an issue they are interested in.
The web service would then offer back a whole list of video
clips where the subject or the MP featured in a debate. It
would allow you to find out, say, if an MP who is talking
about fox-hunting has always held the same view," he says.
