"A.S."....Yes, and I imagine each of them have been kicking themselves ever since! 3com is certainly not going to be sold out cheaply...thats for sure. Anyone with half a brain and knows how to read an Income & Balance Sheet will recognize the value...especially the cash position of 3com vs competitors! Their intellectual assets would in and by themselves would go for a premium! Evaluating the hard numbers are fine...but it is the "potential" of R&D where the future $$$ are to be made! I don't and will not deny the importance of Marketing but it is in the engineering breakthroughs or developments that is the backbone of the techs! Engineering and Marketing need to work extremely well together and get new products/concepts into the marketplace as fast as possible. Technology in thin film processing is moving very fast...and it is only a matter of time when VOIP is available at a reasonable price. "Greenie" is of the opinion that we have reached the limits of "Productivity"...well...we have only scratched the surface of technological development. At some point in the not to distant future...a majority of the workforce will be doing their work offsite. Much leisure time is going to be a spin off because of "Productivity" and many new business will sprout. All of this will only come about primarily because of IP technology. We are in the early stages of the most important "Economic Revolution" that the world has ever known! This new global economic revolution is going to make the Industrial Revolution look pale. Those of us...who are placing the "Capital" on the table are going to be well appreciated by our heirs! I have no doubt about that! The major problem down the road is going to be only one...the social one...what to do with those who are unable to "keep up"...there will be a considerable amt of dislocations...especially in the 3d world. I am of the opinion that technology will produce more jobs than those that will be lost...that is where I am putting my $$$. The American public is not saving as much as their parents and this concerns quite a few individuals like "Greenie"! Well...they are investing in the market for only one reason...why put one's savings and get 2% when the bankers take those savings and place them on the market and get a considerable return? So...this is the future and many individuals are getting a much better return in the market...moreso than in their friendly banker/broker that gives them the impression that they (consumer) hasn't the "expertise" to generate capital! The Computer is certainly going to become a necessity...just like the automobile! Well...so much for my "pearls of wisdom"! Stay focused...good luck in your trading.
