Scumbria. Really. Thanks. I will have to brush up on my research. Here I was under the assumption that we are now living longer, even after age 50, because of research and all of those goody medicines and treatments. I guess no sense taking all those new medicines after age 50 if it does not prolong our life. But I guess I will keep on taking them for my Pharmas sake. Yes, a lot of things are closely tied to diet among other things. I was eating lots of fiber along with fruit and vegetables and darn, now research found out it does not help much.

Are you eating your fruits and veggies? Good thing it's late.

Sonny

<Life expectancy for people 50 years old and older has not changed in the last century. <

Where on earth did you get this statistic?? While infant and child mortality has plunged, so has mortality in people over 50. Prior to WWII the single largest cause of death in people over 50 was pneumonia, today this is far down the list...

OT--OT--OT!!

<Life expectancy for people 50 years old and older has not changed in the last century<

Well, Scumbria, I was intrigued enough by your statements about this to actually look up the data...

In 1900 the average 50 year old male had a life expectancy of 21 years, the average 50 year old female of 20 years.

In 1998 the average 50 year old male had a life expectancy of 28 years, the average 50 year old female had a life expectancy of 31 years. That's a 33% increase for men and a 55% increase for women. Hardly, "no change"

In the future, you might want to check your data before you believe everything somebody throws in a pop book.

BTW, I promise I won't clutter this thread with anymore OT

"Life expectancy for people 50 years old and older has not changed
in the last century."

Pretty goofy statement.

(as someone approaching 70, I am grateful for the two extra years which in my case I attribute to advances in surgical and medical treatment of heart disease and emergency cardiac treatment. It's actually an increase of 25 years in my case, which includes this great bull market and Intel and Cisco's great success and a great many friendships.)
