Point well made. Ultimately, the product we wind up with at SI is one that you and all the other members and potential members want to see... maybe that means we adapt some of the functionality that Yahoo has, but we are going to wind up with some unique stuff as well.

A distinction should probably be made between Yahoo and SI in that SI and future SI site will be primarily driven by user input. I don't believe this is the way Yahoo operates. I believe Yahoo tries to find Web sites that are successful and then either acquire them or try to mimic them... but mimic as a free service with no limits on user behavior (eg. create as many accounts as you want) which drives up their registration counts and makes their pages look very active but poor quality results for users.

So, the general distinction (key difference) that I think should be made is that Yahoo copies Web sites whereas SI/Go2Net listens to users. If it looks like Yahoo isn't copying SI on everything, I can almost guarantee you they are copying AOL (in the case of brokerage buttons), eBay, Amazon or some mom and pop site nobody has heard of. It's called free R&D but it isn't a customer oriented approach... just a short-run bottom line approach.
