S.Korean Chip Exports To U.K. Worth $3.17 Mln Robbed

SEOUL (AP)--South Korean prosecutors on Monday began investigating the armed robbery in Britain of South Korean computer chip exports worth $3.17 million.

The unidentified bandits robbed a truck loaded with semiconductor chips exported by Samsung Electronics Co. (Q.SSE) of South Korea at London's Heathrow airport on March 10, Samsung officials said.

The British police arrested two suspects in late March and are searching for two others. They recently asked South Korea's Ministry of Justice to help gather detailed information about the exports.

About 60% of the stolen chips were recovered. Samsung said it didn't suffer any financial loss, because all the chips had been insured.

Samsung Electronics is a flagship subsidiary of the Samsung Group (Q.SSN), South Korea's second largest conglomerate.
