OT_OT_OT The important rates are age-specific morbidity and mortality. Cancer and heart diseases are mostly diseases of the elderly. Much larger proportions of those who die are elderly today. The number of total deaths may have increased, age-specific cancer rates have changed some both up and down on various types, but age-specific death rates from heart disease have fallen steadily in the U.S.
