Ken,

My first read though the release is that there is not enough technical info to allow for comparisons, specifically whether or not the switch contains a new ASIC. No info available on the Brocade web site either. Looks like they are repackaging and marketing for the e-business, which seems like a familiar strategy.

Ancor has a second power supply available as on option on the MKII. I think it was always an option. Check the "Maintainability" section at this link:

ancor.com

With a MTBF of 10 years (I assume they include the power supply in that determination) you would probably need it only in the most critical of environments. Their web page used to say "MTBF > 10 years (much higher with dual power supplies)"

Ken,

I agree with Mark from Yahoo and George, these three models of Brocade switches are repackaging of the original Silkworm. In the press release, model 2100 can be software upgradable to have full fabric support. Does that mean when in FC_AL mode, these ports do not support full fabric functions? Roy , can you help? Model 2400, 2800 are 8 and 16 ports switches and support 'hardware port zoning'. I don't think this is the same as 'Hardware zoning' that Ancor has. Again, Roy, can you shed some light here? No new function that I can see in these models of Brocade switches .
