Rick, when you consider that a great deal of the Internet 'portal' valuations have to do with selling information on you to marketers, you have to wonder just how much incentive these companies have to protecting information about you. They are creating a marketplace to trade your information. This suggestion is about as credible as saying that companies don't need to be regulated on health and safety issues -- since competition will weed out the corporations that carelessly kill too many people. (A) I don't believe it and (B) why should we put up with any preventable deaths?

If you want to use a private enterprise model, then you should get to sell your information to the highest bidder (if you want it out there at all), and not get it taken from you without your consent.

I'm not too surprised that this kind of article appeared in Barron's. But it's good to see the digitalme system recognized in an article as privacy-friendly.
