John, >>>The core of IOS was overhauled in the late 1970's/early 1980's, although new functionality has steadily been added....IBM's efforts over the past few years have not been so much in the core of the O/S, but to extend capabilities of the OS/390 box, like running Novell software under MVS, etc...<<<

Amazing!!! Maybe IBM can now extend the capabilities of the OS/390 to run Sony's next generation Playstation - which has the processing capabilities of the Cray Supercomputer of a few years ago. <<<GGGG>>>>

Just think, a 10 year kid could then play Donkey Kong (or whatever) on his Playstation and not have to worry until his 40's because MTBF is over 30 years.

Regards,

Mary
