Mary, getting our analysts all mixed up today (me too), Edelstone of MSDW spoke last Friday. Today was Ashok Kumar of Piper Jaffray and Drew Peck of SG Cowen. My first awake eyeball and ear caught that CNBC was having TWO semi analysts on today and first thought was that one of them has to be Dan Niles, BBRN. I was wrong. Maybe he doesn't want to share the spotlight with anyone.

BTW, some here, and all over SI get down on CNBC for relishing in accentuating the negative. Well, today, before the 2 analysts came on, Haines said what was coming and threw in this little goodie: "Is Intel done?" To think I used to defend this guy, and Maria, etc. Still, I know they use whatever they can to hype upcoming spots to keep those eyeballs in place.

Mary - <I caught the last 30 seconds where Mark Edelstone from AG Cowens (I believe) was chanting his mantra lower ASP not making up for higher volume .>

I believe the analyst is Drew Peck for S.G. Cowen Securities. Peck ahd been fairly negative on Intel for a while.

Mark Edelstone is with Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. He recently downgraded from Strong Buy to Outperform, but believes Intel is undervalued at current levels. I don't believe he was on TV today.

Mary, RE: I caught the last 30 seconds where Mark Edelstone from AG Cowens (I believe) was chanting his mantra lower ASP not making up for higher volume .

Remember, he was the anlayst that admitted he did not understand the Xeon market and Intel's potential in that sector. Did he ever indicate that he is now up to speed in that area?

Mark Edelstone is from Morgan Stanley. I believe it was Drew Peck from SG Cowen that you were watching.

Rest assured that Peck does understand the Xeon market and Intel's potential in that sector. I think that Edelstone also understands, but I'm not sure. For the most part, Peck is probably the most knowledgeable analyst in the semiconductor area. (For many of you, I realize that 'knowledgeable analyst' is an oxymoron, but in Peck's case the shoe fits.) This does nothing for the Peck's poor stock picking ability, but then again, knowledge in semiconductors doesn't have a whole heck of a lot to do with stock picking, either, so this doesn't surprise me.

That shows a great memory on your part - but how did you blow his NAME so bad ?

Drew Peck - Not Edelstone !
