The Allen investment in Metricom is great news. William Savoy -- the Vulcan first officer -- is already on their board, so it looks like a great fit. (http://www.metricom.com/about/executives.htm)

Their Ricochet product has been available for awhile in Seattle. I've watched several folks sit down in coffee shops and log on to the internet using a Ricochet wireless modem. It's clearly a great start on "internet anywhere anytime".
