There is that awful problem of "outliers" in an experiment or a measurement samples. My analytical chemistry teachers (very great men -- Furman and Bricker) argued to throw out obvious outliers. I argued that unless you could explain why they were way off, you should not ignore them -- it might be two different regimes or a sensitive nonlinear process. I am not longer a chemist. Neither are they.
