Mark -- I think you asked the question that everyone is grappling with right now. It is also the reason (IMO) that a lot of people are staying away from the drive stocks. In most of the last price wars everyone eventually started losing money and everyone lost.

It is interesting to look at CPQ and notice that while they are losing money the rest of the computer industry seems to be healthy. I do not know if this can be done in the the same circumstances in the HDD sector but who knows?

Interesting enough MXTR was one of the players gaining market share through the last price war. They even made money at it too - always one exception to the rule. It will be interesting to see if SEG can make money selling the U-4 drives while pricing pressure erodes their normal desktop business.
