Two worth checking out for next week's INDEX consideration: MRVC - Moving on no news but... MRV Communications, designs, manufactures and sells computer networking products, primarily Ethernet local area network switches, hubs and related equipment, and fiber optic components for voice, video and data transmission. For the three months ended 3/31/99, revenues rose 15% to $70.1 million. Net loss fell 97% to $909 thousand. Revenues reflect greater marketing efforts. Lower loss reflects the absence of $20.6 million in purchased technology and $23.2 million in restructuring charges. and there is a 3.19 million short position with plenty of take-over rumors flying around. Could be a nice momentum play if anything with all the MCOM, and related news out there. SLNK - another wireless play. Great volume with nice earnings: SLNK designs, manufactures and sells on-premises wire-less telephone systems which complement existing telephone systems by providing mobile communications in a building or campus environment. For the three months ended 3/99, revenues rose 28% to $9.1 million. Net income totalled $733 thousand, up from $125 thousand. Revenues reflect increased penetration of the healthcare and commercial markets. Earnings reflect material cost reductions from volume buying and design improvements. Float is 3.6 million with approx 275,000 short. More to come later. Time for a mocha and smoke break. Twick
