MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 18, 1999--

Industry Leaders Show MPEG-2 Encoding, Decoding, SOHO Video
Editing/Production Using Panasonic DVD-RAM Storage Plus DVD-ROM

Media Exchange, Pressroom 19-20

Panasonic Industrial Company, the leading provider of DVD-RAM drives and media, and five of its strategic partners will demonstrate low-cost real-time MPEG video production, editing, storage and playback.
Panasonic will also demonstrate DVD-RAM/DVD-ROM media interchange during PC Expo at Press Meeting Rooms 19-20. The demonstrations of readily available application solutions, will highlight the broad range of hardware/software products that support Panasonic's rewritable/removable DVD drives and media.

Partners demonstrating products that take maximum advantage of the capacity and performance of the Panasonic LF-D101 DVD-RAM drives include:

-- LaCie Ltd. -- End-user PC, Mac DVD-RAM and DVD-ROM Subsystems
-- Ligos Technology, Inc. -- Software-only, real-time MPEG-2 DVD
video encoding
-- Pinnacle Systems, Inc. -- Low-cost solution for creating,
editing, authoring and distributing DVD video
-- Sigma Designs, Inc. -- DVD/ MPEG2 Encoder/Decoder Cards and
Advanced Set-Top Box Designs
-- VITEC Multimedia, Inc. -- Integrated MPEG-2 software
encoder/editor for Windows environments

To demonstrate the ability to store images on DVD-RAM media and play them on a DVD-ROM, the partners will use Panasonic's new PV-DV910 digital camcorder to capture images, encode the data and store/edit the video using the DVD-RAM drive. The media will then be played on Panasonic's SR-8583 DVD-ROM drive. Windows-based PCs will use both hardware and software MPEG-2 decoders to process and display the images.
Visitors to the Panasonic Press Meeting Rooms will see how the DVD-RAM drive's data transfer rate of up to 10.5Mbps and average seek time of 120ms complement today's leading consumer DVD authoring, editing and playback solutions. These features, plus better-than-broadcast-quality digital video, a storage cost of less than .008 cents/MB, and broad media interchangeability make the LF-D101 an excellent solution for personal or business video production and post-production applications. The versatility of the Panasonic DVD-RAM drive and media also makes it an excellent choice for a wide range of individual and business document and data storage requirements.

The Panasonic LF-D101 DVD-RAM drive is available as an internal drive with a SCSI-2 interface. OEMs can purchase the drive from Panasonic Industrial Company. Panasonic Document Imaging Company (PDIC) will also display the Panasonic branded product on the show floor in Booth 3380. The Panasonic LF-D103U DVD-RAM drive has an MSRP of $699. DVD-RAM media, which is marketed under the Panasonic brand name, is also available from several other leading manufacturers. The removable double-sided 5.2GB disc has an MSRP of $39.95. The 2.6GB single-sided media has an MSRP of $24.95 and is sold with a removable cartridge for playback on the latest Panasonic 5X and 6X DVD-ROM drives.
