"Bubbleheaded squatter" indeed! Jealousy (of my luxurious treepenthouse, supported entirely at taxpayer expense) is such an ugly thing! Never for a moment believe, oh strict one, that the "reason" and "justification" for our prancings is less on my antic mind than on your churlish one.

"I need not draw your attention to the powerfully profound sexual symbolism here," you say, immediately before drawing our attention to it, for which we are all grateful, I am sure, especially for that amusing part about "le petit mort." Do you think it possible we may be witness here to some of those? If so, I am going to go lock myself in my luxurious treepenthouse, safe from exposure to such shame.

Furthermore, if "the element governing this festival is fire" (see above), then where is
your bonfire?!

See

In which I wrote:

So let us away to the forest, there to build a bonfire (small, please, out of respect for
the wood spirits) through which we will leap together. Perhaps many of us may leap
together? Oh, Edwarda, Joan, Cobalt, Rambi, do you wish to jump with us through the
fire? Shall we even allow Chuzzlewit to join us? Certainly, it is a festival, why not!

I, at least, dear dryad, respect your traditions.
