RE: CHIPWORKS UNCOVERS WHAT LIES INSIDE THE "PALM" OF YOUR HAND

OTTAWA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 1999--Chipworks, Inc. today announced that they have uncovered
some of the critical technology found in the latest version of the 3Com Palm Pilot VII personal digital
assistant (PDA) with wireless internet messaging.

In opening the product, currently available only in limited release, "We were surprised to see some of the
technology utilized, given the sleek design and newness of the product" said Julia Elvidge, Director,
Marketing & Sales for Chipworks. Initial investigations indicate that the most notable device so far is the
Motorola Dragonball Integrated Processor. This low power, 3.3V device contains a Motorola 68EC000 hard
core block surrounded by gate array logic that includes LCD control circuits and a UART/IrDA driver.
"Chipworks engineers considered 3Com's choice of 2-8Mb Sharp Psuedo SRAM (PSRAM) chips unusual as
they contain a refresh pin but essentially act as a SRAM" stated Ms. Elvidge.

A 2M bytes user storage capacity is provided on board using AMD's 16Mb Flash EEPROM. Other notable
parts include the Lucent 1615 DSP communications chip and a GaAs power amplifier for GSM applications
manufactured by Alpha Industries, Inc. "The LCD driver appears very interesting and we will be conducting a
complete product tear down and a system level pictoral analysis with die photos shortly" said Ms. Elvidge.

Chipworks has recently began to investigate downstream products such as the Palm Pilot VII in search of
hard to find devices traditionally not found off-the-shelf. Other investigations currently being pursued by
Chipworks include cellular phones and electronic toys. About Chipworks, Inc.
