You should watch Pirates of Silicon Valley.

Completely slanderous portrayal of all parties involved, but they get the general story right, more or less. Too bad they ended it when Microsoft shipped Windows. As any proper geek knows, it wasn't until Windows 3.0 was released that Mister Softie truly came into its own.

That's like saying the automobile stands in the way of space travel. The disk drive is not hindering the emergence of a superior technology if one existed today. Even ubiquitous computing is less hindered by the disk drive than by lack of bandwidth (esp wireless bandwidth), lack of highly reliable voice recognition and, most imprtantly lack of agent software etc. to make computing truly useful. -Z
