LOD, there's plenty of room in the world for thin clients. There are lots of applications in the business world where this type of implementation is cost effective.

By and large however, I don't think we'll see a wholesale industry shift towards consumers letting business based servers crunch all the numbers, process sound, video, take multiple inputs from camcorders, musical instruments, scanners etc. and send the results back to our monitors and speakers as a fee based service but I wouldn't be surprised to see an attempt at a business model like this in the near future. We are more likely to see home servers become the central computing and control resource.

The cost of computing is just becoming too affordable for any model that removes this power and places it in the hands of a provider to survive.
