BGR, how does marginal utility enter into your ideas about a statement like you just made: If the odds are favoring up, isn't it rational to go long? It seems to me it shouldn't merely be the most likely outcome that should be a factor, but also the cost of being wrong that should enter in. In other words if someone was older, for instance, should they risk their secure retirement? It seems to me that so much is missing from SI type debates since everyone's situation is so different. And context is everything.
