The "normal" spread on GRNO stock--providing the MM with a rate of return that not even a loan shark from the mob would charge [see note]--shows $0.062 to sell and $0.25 to buy. A few are able to bargain somehow in between those numbers, such as $0.188 to buy. Your best bet, if you must enter a transaction at these numbers, is to use a full-service broker who can engage in negotiation with the MM. Of course, they won't do that for very small amounts of stock or money. At least use limit orders and have lots of patience.

Your advice is very sound for all thinly traded stocks, Ned.

=+=+=Norm

Note: The rate of return depends on how quickly the MM can turn over his inventory, and what he has as a carrying charge for maintaining the inventory. My guess is that the MM has the potential to make a return of about 75,000% on an annualized basis. Based on some comments I've heard, the mob looks for a much more reasonable 400%, based on a maximum six month loan at 200% interest. Of course, with the mob, your knees are also at risk.
