Well, all the fiber optic companies with the exception of MFNX went down today. If your theory was correct, why did LVLT go down 2 points? If anything they have a lot to gain by this cat fight. Their stock should be going the opposite direction of Qwest, but it doesn't.

Right now the stock market is confused by what is going to happen. Many were counting on a buyout by BLS, now that may not happen. Equally there were those not hoping for a buyout by BLS, but it might as a white knight. There are those that thought the more fiber laid the greater the immediate return on their investments, but now it is starting to be seen that you need customers, not just glass. There are the mutual funds which bought Qwest at 20 and now have decided they need to cash in before June 30 so they can report a nice fat gain. There are the mutual funds that bought at 45 and have decided to dump this to get a nice fat loss. There are the funds that bought Qwest because it had a 50%+ growth rate. Forget that was unsustainable, we are in the Internet age, where profits are anathemaa and if you actually have a chance to make money in the next few years you ain't worth spit. Give me something that will never make money and I'll bid it to 300 a share. There are the funds that don't like 50% growth rates and like Qwest to be another big telecom, but just aren't sure they are going to make it.

There are the investors that think Nacchio should be shot, hung, drawn, quartered, or all in that order. They have their lawyers salavating at the chance of a class action suit, although thats probably a long shot since you have to prove intent to defraud. There are the investors that think Nacchio has a great plan and cannot fail, which is probably foolish.

And finally there are the ones like me that just want to hold on for a while, add to my position, and wait it out. The fundamentals are the same, bandwidth will be in great demand and Qwest has it. Add USW and, if they can get it, FRO to stop GBLX in their tracks and you've got a winner. I'm patient, I have been accumulating MEMC and Alliance Semi for the past 2 years. Looks like they may be paying off finally. I can wait for this one to come around too as its probably the best play I've seen in a long time. JMO
