Anchovies are a refined and cultivated taste, and as such, are civilized: work.ucsd.edu:5141/cgi-bin/http_webster?method=exact&isindex=Civilized&db=*

Additionally, they swim in schools, thus meeting the "educated" and "learning" portions of the definition. Their continuing advancement should be supported by all. No tax break.

Anchovy-haters clearly are an uncivilised and savage lot, destined to a life of stone tools, living in hovels amongst tribal hunters and gatherers.

When I was a kid my momma once made me a sandwich of anchovy paste (a <PI word for German> kitty kimchee kinda thing) on dark bread which I don't much like even without Fish Death Puree. Perhaps this is the equivalent of Apricot Snot Trauma.
Now I actually kinda like anchovies except that they're rather salty. I like'm most of all in a fresh, properly-made Caesar salad.
But carnivore that I am, I'd NEVER admit taht, oh noooo.

My husband is also an anchovy-afficionado (shows up red, but my little Webster's is no help, and please, not the OED, I've got a back ache.)(Dictionary.com says afficionado is right.)

He says that in college when he would eat pizza with his friends, if he ordered anchovies, the rest of the people sitting at the table would stand up and move to another table.

When we were dating, there was a pizza place close to Tulane where we would get white pizza (no tomato sauce) with garlic and anchovies, and drink lots of beer. I think my taste for garlic and anchovies is why he married me, or maybe my taste for beer?

When I go to someone's house and we're going to have pizza, I actually take a couple of cans of anchovies with me! Just in case!

And I like everything else Cobe puts on pizza, too. Cobe, order for me; no pepperoni, please.

It has to be the thin NY kind.

Penni, dear, you are a Pisces! I do believe that if research were undertaken, Pisces people would probably like anchovies out of all proportion to their numbers in the population.

I must say that I love them, also. The thought of them makes my husband and daughter quite ill, however, and when I brought home a small, elegant glass jar full of Italian ones, I had to hide them where no one else would have to look at them. And they can taste ONE small anchovy chopped to smithereens in a very large pot of pasta with tuna, onions and parsley sauce, another something they will not eat!
