The difference is that for most of the millions of years of man's evolution he/she was more likely to be meat than to eat meat. Due to lack of technology primative man lived on mostly roots, leaves, berries, flowers, etc augmented by worms, bugs, and marrow from bones of carcasses left by faster animals.

Today most people eat a massive overdose of fat and protein every day. Our bodies were not built for this.
