Dow Jones Newswires

Ancor Commun Up 13%; Analyst Cites
Rise In Sector

By Scott Scholten

MINNEAPOLIS -- Ancor Communications Inc.'s (ANCR) shares rose
nearly 15% on Monday and set a new 52-week high, as investors brought
the company's stock price in line with those of other fibre channel
technology companies, analysts said.

"This is a follow through with the move Brocade made last week," Clint
Morrison, an analyst with John G. Kinnard Co. in Minneapolis said.
"There's nothing particular on Ancor that's driving the stock."

Brocade Communications Systems Inc. (BRCD) closed up 34% on Friday
and Emulex Corp. (EMLX) closed up about 5.9% higher over the course
of last week's trading, Morrison noted.

Ancor's stock earlier hit a 52-week high of 22 3/8, outdoing the previous
high of 19 53/64 set last Monday.

Ancor makes fibre switching channels for storage area networks, often
refered to as SANS. SANS allow computer network administrators to
store data at a central location rather than on a series of servers.

Ancor shares were recently at 22 1/8, up 13.8%, on volume of 3.4 million.
Average daily volume is 674,000.

Is this a sector move tried to BRCD and EMLX? How can a company like ANCR with a price Price/Sales ratio of 119.10 be compared to BRCD with a Price/Sales ratio of 61.70 or EMLX with a Price/Sales ratio of 8.30? How big is the deal with Sun? The only mention of size I've seen relating to the Sun packaging deal was the 10 million in minimum purchases to exercise the warrants.
