The GED is an equivalency exam. It is not a universal exam. I was thinking more of an exam everybody has to take regardless of what school if any the student attended.

Btw and fwiw - Dictionary.com prefers "afficionado". My Webster's Collegiate has no entry for that spelling but does list "aficionado".
