These are barn swallows, their nests are mud and grass. When a cat gets up into the rafters he is buzzed by a squadron of dive bombers.

Same with killdeers. The momma does a good imitation of being crippled and leads the threat away. They don't make a nest but lay their eggs on gravel roads.
