Steve, what your thoughts on the evolution of a wireless Internet? Yeah, I suppose that's a couple hours worth of discussion right there. Perhaps you'd start the discussion by saying it's not ready yet?

I'm investing in General Magic and I think they're bringing together some things that could be interesting. I believe we're in the early stages of developing a Voice User Interface, or VUI, which all enable us to interact with the Internet where keyboards are not available.

General Magic and Intuit have announced plans to develop a product interface that will allow Quicken.com users to access the network via the phone. We still don't know exactly how this will develop, but the imagination runs wild at the possibilities.

To my surprise, General Magic made an announcement yesterday to work with Excite@Home. EXCITE@HOME FIRST PORTAL SERVICE TO OFFER TOLL-FREE NUMBER AND ONE-STOP RETRIEVAL OF ALL MESSAGES WITH VOICEMAIL LAUNCH

corp.excite.com

To me, this service looks like a Hotmail, a revolutionary new service that can be used by anybody, no computer required.

Looking at today's wireless network, they have a lot of work to do to make a fully functional Internet service. Bandwidth is small and the evolution of smart devices is only just now beginning. The product General Magic is working on is here today. Throw in their “agent” technology, agreements with Microsoft, BellSouth, Intuit, Qwest and now Excite@Home and you have a pretty interesting ground swell developing. Where will it take us?

Do you think they'll have a chance at success? As a stock, they certainly get no respect.

Regards, Mark
