Not only did they lose a big customer (one that doesn't pay its bills, on the other hand), they also lost the customer that had a few of their main OEM wins (Dell and Micron).

I think that STB was the better choice between STB and Diamond, so I'm agreeing with 3dfx's choice even more. Creative and the other NVIDIA customers now will go punish Diamond's NVIDIA products the same way that they did for 3dfx during the transition.

It makes me wonder how long NVIDIA will stay on its own? Creative Technology would make the most sense to go in and purchase them.

This also may give some of the other chipset companies (Micron with Rendition, the Permedia3, and Videologic) another gasp of life. With the threat that NVIDIA may disappear, they'll have to buy chips off of someone. Unless S3 closes or splits off the graphics board piece of Diamond, they will not be selling their next generation to the boardmakers.

Speaking of their next generation, I think that Creative Labs has issued two bios updates for their Savage4 product already. Seems to be a lot of trouble for such a new product.

ps - I accepted a new job within my current company and will be moving to the San Jose area. I'll be an SBU Controller.
