Ken,
You know, there is yet anotheer way to pull "all the excess gold" off the market, and it would not involve the (some cash strapped) mining companies.
The World Gold Council should
1. Open their own storage facility.
2. market bullion mutual funds which have a low cost of storage and will not loan bullion
A very big part of the problem is that most of working america now have the bulk their assets in the stock market. Even if these masses wanted to put their 401k funds into bullion, most employeers don't offer a gold fund.

The manipulation is working against gold on both the demand and supply side of the equation.
